Description
This picture was taken sometime between 1887, when the Sheriff’s House was built, and 1912, when brick pavers were laid on the streets surrounding the Square. There are no electric wires visible, so it is probably taken before the power plant was built in 1897. When a man was elected Sheriff, he was required to live in the Sheriff's House & Jail residence. His wife was expected to feed any prisoners in the jail.
