The parish house was built when Rev. Michael S. Gilmartin was pastor from 1905-1908. It was torn down in 1965 to make way for a new rectory during Fr. Joseph Egan's pastorate (1934-1968).

The Woodstock Children's Home was started in Chicago in1886 by the Rev. Thomas Brayton Arnold and his wife Teressa Richardson Arnold . It was incorporated in 1888 as the Chicago Industrial Home for Children.

In 1897, the children's home was relocated to a farm on the north side of town in Woodstock, as a result of a donation by local resident Roxy D. Stevens. The name Chicago Industrial Home remained until sometime between 1946 & 1948 when it became Woodstock Children's Home. It was administered by the Free Methodist Church.

This postcard was taken between 1909 (start of Wm G. Hoffman company) and 1910 (postmark). The card is numbered 709.

In 1912, a large addition was erected. The Children's Home also included a second large home, Harrison House (formerly Grace Hall of Todd School) purchased in 1956. The operation closed in 1975.

The church was on the corner of Church & Jefferson Streets where the Challenger Learning Center is now located. The original front portico and door was removed so outside access was from the street level only. The steeple was also removed and the Dacy Lumber sign put on the steeple support.

This photo shows most of the old house facing Jefferson that had been used as the lumber company office. It was demolished at the same time as the church.

The very last wall of the church is coming down. The house that is visible across the street to the left of the tree is still there, but the white house set back has since been demolished for a parking lot.

In Postcards Notebook]]> The Crystal Palace opened soon after the 1892 fire on Main Street. Due to ill health, H. J. Herdklotz sold the business (not the building) to Connors & Stone in 1901. In the 1914 City Directory, it is listed as the J. F. Connors Saloon.
The men in the photo are not identified, but it's a sure bet that one is Connors and one is Stone. Wines, Liquors, and Cigars are advertised as well as Jung Milwaukee Beer. Phillipp Jung bought out his partners in 1896 to create Jung Brewing Company which lasted until Prohibition.
Note the Family Entrance door.
The flags and bunting decorating the building differ from the the decorations in the July 4, 1910 Persson photos.

This photo is labeled "Sight [sic] of Dacy Lumber-corner Church and Jefferson about 1920s" while the sign for the Sesquicentennial Photo Exhibit dated it as 1921.

Jim started with a picture of the Woodstock Square taken near the E. Jackson St entrance that shows the smokestack in the distance beyond Main St. Next people gather to watch, including one photographer standing on his van. In the third photo, the chimney is starting to topple. In the fourth photo, only the dust remains where the smokestack stood. Finally, Jim returned to the same location on the Square to show the empty space in the distance where the smokestack stood.

This school was built in 1921 and opened in February, 1922. The Sentinel article called it a "beautiful architectural achievement." It was the third elementary school at the time after Clay Street and Central School. Woodstock High School was built around the same time.
