This drawing in the 1872 Atlas has nearly all the same businesses as the photo ID 38, which we have dated ca. 1877. The drawings in the atlas are stylized to please the patrons of the publication so not every detail was necessarily on the building but the businesses should be accurate.
103 E. Van Buren: J. C. Choate Groceries, Crookery (sic) & Glass Ware. Established in 1865. JOHN CALVIN CHOATE [photo] OLIVE BALDWIN CHOATE [photo] In 1857 Mr. Choate entered into the general merchandising business at Woodstock, in which he continued about half a century. This store was one of the leading trading places in McHenry county. The Choate store was located in what is now known as the Stafford building, and all three floors and basement were always well filled with merchandise. [Woodstock Sentinel 3-13-1937 Sec. 6 p7]
I.O.O.F. Hall: Odd Fellows Hall located on upper floor.
105 E. Van Buren: Thomas Block. Edwin E. Thomas & Son. Merchant Tailoring, dry goods & Groceries.
107 E. Van Buren: I. T. & A. L. Salisbury
109 E. Van Buren: Wheat & Wright Drugs & Medicines, Books & Stationery; Irwin's Block. Partnership started in 1869 and became A. S. Wright in 1880.
111 E. Van Buren: Bunker Brothers. Hardware & Groceries. Bunker, G. K. (George)-—Born in 1826; first man to establish business at Ridgefield, where he was agent for the railway, postmaster and justice of the peace; established business in Woodstock, succeeding his father and taking his brother, Amos K., as partner under name of Bunker Bros.; business destroyed by fire, Oct. 8 1871[then moved from West to East Van Buren] [Woodstock Sentinel 3-13-1937 Sec. 4 p7]

117 E. Van Buren: E. W. Blossom Watches & Jewelry. Clocks & Silver-ware. Blossom's would soon move to 107 Van Buren.
