Bird's Eve View
Title
Bird's Eve View
Description
Birds Eye View Woodstock, ILL.
Taken from the Public School on South Street that burned in 1921.
Upper left: Courthouse with smokestack behind it, probably Moncur's greenhouse but possibly Woodstock Brewery. To the right in the background Oliver Typewriter factory.
Left: side view of Stafford's Furniture and the roof of the Donnelly house next to a side view of the McHenry County Courthouse.
120 Cass St. wooden building that was a boarding house and was demolished in 1928 for Woolworth's.
118 Cass: brick building torn down in 1921 for Pratt Meat Market
Foreground: rear view of 125 Van Buren (Chauncy Hill's blacksmith shop), demolished for Stage Left Cafe
129 Van Buren demolished in the 1940's for the A & P grocery store. Both buildings have a rectangular "business" façade made of wood. As a result a black rectangle seems to be in the Square park but is actually the shadow from the park trees.
On back, PCK Series; 8682 L. T. Hoy Druggist, Woodstock Ill. Printed in Germany. Postmarked Aug 2 1909. Jim Keefe postcard is postmarked 1908.
Luman T. Hoy had a drug store at 100 Cass from 1881-1928.
Paul C. Koeber Co. (PCK) 1900-1923
85 Franklin Street. New York, NY and Kirchheim, Germany
Published national view-cards and illustrations in chromolithography and in black & white. Much of their color work has a dark heavy feel to it because of the many thick layers of ink they used. In their later years they published postcards using tinted halftones. metropostcard.com
