Park and East Side of Square before 1909
Title
Park and East Side of Square before 1909
Description
Horses with wagons and buggies are parked on Johnson St in this dark colored photograph. The buildings on Benton St can be glimpsed through the trees with additional buggies and wagons parked on Benton St. The Spring House (built 1876) is visible, but the monument, built in 1909, is not. In its place is the metal fountain that was in the middle of the Square Park since the 1882.
The publisher is not identified on the card, but the style on the front (border and font) is identical to a William G. Hoffman postcard of the South Street Culvert. The back also has the same font and layout. The card is postmarked 1910.
Hoffman was in business in Chicago from 1908-1925.
