110 N. Benton early 1900s

Sanborn maps from 1885 to 1912 show two businesses in the building at 110 N. Benton, a barber shop and a harness shop. There was also a third business in the basement. Sometime between 1900 and 1902, Bernie Sherman moved his "Sherman's Sporting Resort," from the Primm Block to this location (the Furer Block). He sold sporting goods, guns, ammunition, bicycles, lawn mowers, cigars and tobacco. Plus he offered billiards and bowling--all in the basement. The first time cigars and tobacco are mentioned in his ad was in 1905.
"Henry Schneider and M. G. Eckert, under the firm name of Schneider & Eckert, conduct tonsorial parlors in the Furer building, east side public square. Mr. Schneider has been in the business in this city for more than twenty-five years, being for several years located on the corner where B. S. Austin's store now is. Mr. Eckert learned his trade in Mr. Schneider's shop, and that gentleman took him into partnership several years ago. Roy Murphy is a learner in their shop. [Woodstock Sentinel 12-19-1901]
Schneider & Eckert were still in business in the 1914 City Directory, so it is possible that they are in this photo.
It is also possible that the Harness Maker was Frank Hanaford. He is listed in the 1914 City Directory and was listed in the 1901 Sentinel article:
DRAYMEN. The draymen of the city are E. L. Hanaford, Frank C. Hanaford (who also handles the American express) [Woodstock Sentinel 12-19-1901]
