Title
Train platform with seated boys
Description
Men in suits, women in hats and long sleeves (although a few girls do not wear hats and their sleeves are elbow-length) and children wait on the platform for the train. The two boys seated on the platform are Arthur (looking toward the train) & Stanley Persson (pronounced pierson) with their mother Katherine Persson behind themin the dark dress and big hat. Next to her are Vera & Mildred Dibler.
In the photo album that Mrs. Persson donated to the McHenry County Historical Society, there is a note next to this photo with the message: "We think William Howard Taft, 27th Pres. Was passing through on this train July 4, 1911."
From this album we know that the Persson's resided at 1011 Queen Anne St.
Behind the platform is the large brick building of the Buell & Olmstead Grain Flour and Feed, 301 Clay Street, now demolished.
