Title

Park and East Side of Square ca 1907

Description

This postcard was printed after 1907 when postal regulations were changed to permit writing a message on the back as well as the address.

It shows the Square park from the west entrance on Johnson St. with mature trees, a dark-red colorized Spring House (1873), the metal fountain in the center (1880), diagonal sidewalks (1885), Sherman Block (1893). It also shows only horses & buggies parked--by 1910 there were automobiles mixed in.

The style and type face (both front and back) is similar to the South Street Culvert postcard ID168 which was produced by W. G. Hoffman Pub of Chicago but the quality of the photo is much poorer.
