Description

This series of 11 photos show the progression of the reconstruction of the Opera House portico on August 4, 1997. John Schares and the Opera House staff designed the structure, closely following the original. The Opera House renovation in 1977 had included a restored cupola and bell but did not include this original detail.

The series of events are easy to follow, with the crane needed to lift the wooden frame into place. In photo #10, John Schares poses in front of the successful project. Photo #11 was taken some time later, after the raililngs and fishscales have been added but before the lighting (next record) was installed.
