First Presbyterian church 1859
Title
First Presbyterian church 1859
Description
The Presbyterians built a frame church on the corner of Church and Jefferson in 1848 (hence the name Church Street). In 1856 they sold the building to the German Presbyterians who moved it to Queen Anne Prairie. That same year they built this brick church. In 1883 this building was sold to Dacy Bros. Lumber who used it until it was torn down to make room for the National Tea Grocery store. There is a plaque locating the original church on the wall of the Challenger Center building.
222 Church Street
The architecture is classic Greek Revival in style with the heavy pediment under the gable roof and pillars surrounding the front door.
