The Oliver Typewriter headquarters building was completed in 1907 and two floors were added in 1920. The cast iron exterior features typewriter-related motifs. The building was declared a Chicago Landmark in 1984. In the 1990s when the adjacent Oriental Theatre expanded its backstage area the interior of the Oliver Typewriter building was gutted but one-third of its original steel structure, as well as the building's Dearborn facade and a portion of its alley façade were preserved.
