June 5 1903 | For a New Courthouse

Title

June 5 1903 | For a New Courthouse

Description

The article that appeared exclusively in The Republican last week concerning the erection of a new courthouse in Woodstock has attracted considerable attention and set the people to talking all over the county, as its importance demands that it should. The man who is in the habit of figuring for the future takes the position that the old court house has outgrown its usefulness and that it would be cheaper in the end to erect a new building rather than to overhaul and rebuild the present structure. There are those who favor raising the floors and utilizing the basement space in the present building, most of which is now damp and musty, but it is a question whether this job would not cost more than that it would be worth after it was finished, and even then the building not be sufficiently commodious and secure to provide safe quarters for the county records. It is a subject that is of vital importance to every property owner, and it should be calmly discussed and settled at an early day.
